KNIVES ARE SIMPLY COOL

Knifemaking is my hobby since 2003, when I grinded my first knife. For fixed blades I preferably use full tang and hidden tang constructions and for folding knives I prefer liner lock and frame lock. For handles I like to use traditional materials as wood, antlers and leather but also modern G-10 materials. It is also very interesting to work with highly valuable materials e.g. mammoth ivory or teeth. DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating, a very thin but durable and hard layer, which protects the blade against surface damage, is a remarkable alternative.

KNIFE MAKING PROCESS

I do not make my knives by smithing, but by grinding a plate of steel. After grinding the shape of a knife (blade), the flat grind is done. After the required surface finish, the blade travels through a vacuum furnace to be heat treated. Next step is fitting a handle, which part could be also a guard and a pommel in some types of knives. For my knives I make leather or Kydex sheaths for ease of carrying.
